NBA Mock Draft

 Pick: 1 |
LaMarcus Aldridge Texas 6'11" |
The Raptors need help at every position except power forward. They could clearly use UConn's Marcus Williams to fill the point guard hole but he is not good value here. Problem for the Raps is the best player in this draft (Aldridge), plays the same spot as their best player, Chris Bosh, so they may go with Andrea Bargnini or Rudy Gay. |
Andrea Bargnani, Rudy Gay, trade down |
 Pick: 2 |
Tyrus Thomas LSU 6'8" |
If the Raps decide to select Bargnani as many are assuming, look for the Bulls to jump all over Aldridge. But since Aldridge should be the top choice, look for the Bulls to pick Thomas, a raw talent with a non-stop motor. |
Adam Morrison, Andrea Bargnani |
 Pick: 3 |
Rudy Gay UConn 6'8" |
The Hornets need help on the wing to go along with rising young stars Raymond Felton and Emeka Okafor. While Gay did not have the season everyone expected last year, he has the natural gifts to be the best player to emerge from this draft. |
Brandon Roy, Adam Morrison |
 Pick: 4 |
Adam Morrison Gonzaga 6'8" |
The Blazers would be thrilled if Morrison falls to them at the fourth pick. They already have a dearth of young backcourt players developing and Morrison would help to sell tickets in a town that is quickly becoming disinterested in Blazer basketball. |
Brandon Roy, Shelden Williams |
 Pick: 5 |
Shelden Williams Duke 6'9" |
Theres plenty of talk that the Hawks have a deal set up with
Houston which would see them draft Brandon Roy for the Rockets and trade him down to Houston for Sheldon Williams and Luther Head. Problem is Williams may not last that long. This is a team that is stocked on the wings so if they don't take the big Duke forward look for them to draft UConn point guard Marcus Williams. |
Marcus Williams, Brandon Roy |
 Pick: 6 |
Brandon Roy Washington 6'6" |
The T-Wolves would be delighted if Roy falls to the sixth spot since his four years in college makes him the most NBA-ready player in the draft. Roy would provide solid help on the wing and keep star forward Kevin Garnett happy since he wants to make the playoffs ASAP. |
Andrea Bargnani, Marcus WIlliams |
 Pick: 7 |
Andrea Bargnani Benneton Trevieso (Italy) 7'1" |
Yes, if the Raptors pass on the Italian forward he could be in for a freefall to the Celtics. Boston already has a lot of young talent on their roster so it is believed they may be looking to deal this pick for some veteran help. Bargnani has been compared to Dirk Nowitzki and Pau Gasol so he would be hard for Celtics GM Danny
Ainge to pass on. |
Cedric Simmons, Randy Foye |
 Pick: 8 |
Randy Foye Villanova 6'4" |
Foye has been labeled a poor man's Dwyane Wade but that remains to be seen. The Rockets need a shooter to help clear up space for T-Mac and Yao Ming and since questions have arisen recently about J.J. Redick after his DWI and back issues, the Rockets will likely play it safe and go with the Villanova product. |
J.J. Redick, Cedric Simmons |
 Pick: 9 |
Patrick O'Bryant Bradley 7'0" |
The Warriors have talent everywhere but in the middle. After O'Bryant destroyed Pitt centre Aaron Gray in the NCAA tournament, he has rocketed into the draft spotlight. The Warriors may also select a small forward and try to unload Troy Murphy or Mike Dunleavy. |
Rodney Carney, Marcus Williams |
 Pick: 10 |
Cedric Simmons N.C. State 6'10" |
This big fella with the strong inside game has really been
impressing teams on the pre-draft circuit. The ultra-athletic forward may already be off the board by this time leaving the Sonics looking at other positions although they run two-deep almost everywhere across the board. |
Marcus Williams, Saer Sane |
 Pick: 11 |
J.J. Redick Duke 6'3" |
The Magic need a shooter to go along with their inside-outside building blocks, Dwight Howard and Jameer Nelson. Redick's recent troubles (back, DWI) may raise one too many red flags for Orlando and the Duke star may experience a freefall on draft day. |
Saer Sane, Maurice Ager |
 Pick: 12 |
Rodney Carney Memphis 6'9" |
The Hornets were almost carried into the playoffs by rookie point guard Chris Paul but they could use some serious help along the frontline. The players they have are serviceable but they really need some young special talent up front. |
Saer Sane, Hilton Armstrong |
 Pick: 13 |
Marcus Williams UConn 6'3" |
With Williams possibly sliding down as far as the 13th pick, it tells you how much uncertainty there is heading into this draft. Some believe the top point guard in this year's draft could go as high as fifth or as low as 17th. If Williams could shoot, he would definitely be long gone by this point. Granted the Sixers already have Allen
Iverson at the point but there are strong rumblings that he will be in a different uniform by the time next season starts. |
Saer Sane, Hilton Armstrong |
 Pick: 14 |
Thabo Selefosha Biella (Italy) 6'6" |
The Jazz can't miss with this Swiss pick. The Jazz need a wing player with a jumper to open up some space for all of their inside talent. They may also look at a big man since all of the top shooting guards are off the board at this point and they may look to deal Carlos Boozer this summer. |
Saer Sane, Ronnie Brewer |
 Pick: 15 |
Saer Sane Pepinster (Belgium) 7'0" |
Having already chosen a wing player with their first pick,
look for the Hornets to head inside with their second choice. This Senagalese centre has a giant wingspan and will help clog the middle on defence for the Hornets. They may leave him in Europe for another year or two to let him develop. |
Hilton Armstrong, Alexander Johnson |
 Pick: 16 |
Oleksy Pecherov Paris Basket Racing (France) 6'10" |
The Bulls will have already addressed their need for inside help with the second pick in the draft so look for them to go across the pond at No. 16. Pecherov can be allowed to develop overseas while the Bulls continue to stockpile young talent. |
Sergio Rodriguez, Joel Freeland |
 Pick: 17 |
Rajon Rondo Kentucky 6'1" |
It remains to be seen whether Rondo will ever have the vision to be a lead guard in the NBA but his phenomenal speed make him a solid choice here. Question marks continue to surround Jamaal Tinsley's talent-level in Indiana so the Pacers will be looking for help at the point. |
Sergio Rodriguez, Kyle Lowry |
 Pick: 18 |
Sergio Rodriguez Estudiantes (Spain) 6'3" |
The selection of this magical Spanish guard would allow the Wizards to move Arenas to the shooting guard position on occasion. Rodriguez would also provide some depth for Arenas since the only other point guards on the team last year were Donell Taylor and Antonio Daniels, both combo guards. |
Kyle Lowry, Alexander Johnson |
 Pick: 19 |
Ronnie Brewer Arkansas 6'7" |
This athletic combo guard could be long gone by the time Sacramento picks but he fills the opening on the wing created by the deal that sent Predrag Stojakovic to Indiana. The team could also look for help on the inside as well and grab Hilton Armstrong. |
Hilton Armstrong |
 Pick: 20 |
Hilton Armstrong UConn 6'11" |
The Knicks could really use a true point guard but with the glut of combo guards already in New York, they will look inside for someone to provide Eddy Curry and Channing Frye with help. There are a few other options on the board but Armstrong would be a perfect fit for the running game that new coach Isiah Thomas is expected to try to implement in New York. |
Alexander Johnson, Shawne Williams |
 Pick: 21 |
Shawne Williams Memphis 6'9" |
Williams may be long gone by the time the Suns pick, but he would be the perfect fit in Phoenix should they have to find a capable replacement for Tim Thomas who is a free agent. The athletic forward can play either spot up front and would help to spell Amare Stoudemire and Shawn Marion on the inside. The Suns could also use a point, if any are still available, to give Steve Nash a breather. |
Kyle Lowry, Alexander Johnson |
 Pick: 22 |
Alexander Johnson Florida State 6'9" |
Johnson is no spring chicken at 23 years of age but he will help fill a frontcourt that has had major gaps ever since Kenyon Martin went west. This athletic big man runs the floor well and will fit into New Jersey's high-octane offence. |
Kyle Lowry, Quincy Douby |
 Pick: 23 |
Quincy Douby Rutgers 6'3" |
With their second straight selection the Nets could grab a local guard -- either Douby or Kyle Lowry to give aging star Jason Kidd some rest. Douby was the top-scorer in the Big East last season, a conference many consider to be the toughest in the States. |
Kyle Lowry, Shannon Brown |
 Pick: 24 |
Kyle Lowry Villanova 6'0" |
Although Lowry is a little undersized he's incredibly tough and Memphis could use some grit. Last season the spot was filled by Damon Stoudamire and Chucky Atkins but Stoudamire is nearing the end of his career and Atkins is a free agent. |
Shannon Brown, Gulliermo Diaz |
 Pick: 25 |
Shannon Brown Michigan State 6'3" |
Brown is more of a smallish two-guard but with LeBron James running the point guard position from the small forward spot the Cavaliers could afford to play a guy like Brown at the lead guard spot and not lose too much. Brown is a human highlight-film dunker with great speed who would give James another option to find on the break. |
Maurice Ager, Gulliermo Diaz |
 Pick: 26 |
James White Cincinnati 6'5" |
If the Lakers don't pick this scrappy Bearcat product all
indications are he will drop to the second round. Reports indicate the athletic forward was very impressive during his workout in front of Lakers brass. |
Maurice Ager, Gulliermo Diaz |
 Pick: 27 |
Joel Freeland Gran Canaria (Spain) 7'0" |
The Suns just don't have the roster room or cap space to pick a North American player with their second choice in the first round. So look for them to go across the pond and grab this relatively-unknown, 19-year-old Englishman. |
Marcus Vinicius Vieira de Souza, Yotam Halerpin |
 Pick: 28 |
Maurice Ager Michigan State 6'5" |
The Mavs love to have players like Josh Howard and Marquis Daniels who are athletic and play on the wing and Ager certainly fits the same mold. A slasher with a jumpshot, Ager will mesh in well with a stable of young wing players in Dallas. |
Gulliermo Diaz, Mardy Collins |
 Pick: 29 |
Gulliermo Diaz Miami 6'2" |
The Knicks don't really need any more bodies especially in the backcourt but reports indicate that Miami would like to get their hands on this athletic scoring guard and the Knicks would make the perfect trading partner. If they keep the pick, the Knicks will look at another inside player or a player they can stash in Europe for a year or two. |
Josh Boone, Marcus Vinicius Vieira de Souza |
 Pick: 30 |
Marcus Vinicius Vieira de Souza São Carlos (Brazil) 6'10" |
This athletic Brazilian scoring machine would help the Blazers get younger up front and would allow the team the option of shipping him out to Europe for a year or two while an already-young team matures a bit. |
Josh Boone, Mardy Collins |
